The commission

It's the story of a creature that thinks it's a school. Thus "Old School" remembers its past. Through its memories, the Creature attaches as much to its own transformation as to that of adolescents.

This film is the result of an artistic commission placed by professors from Jean Jaurès de La Ciotat College to Suzanne Hetzel, photographer, and Jean-Pierre Oostende, writer. The teachers wanted the artists to look at the transition from the old city centre college to the new building built on the shipyard site. The idea of the work was born in conjunction with the research carried out by the 4th grade students on the history of the site and on the emergence of the future college. It reflects the richness of a local heritage and the importance of projecting oneself into the future.

In the fiction Qu'allons nous devenir ?, through the voice of a fantastic creature (old school), Suzanne Hetzel and Jean-Pierre Oostende tackle the theme of changes, transitions, transformations : the transition from an old building to a new one that accompanies the transition from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to the adult world.
