The context
In the Luberon farmland area, a hedge of 100 m in length had to be replanted along the length of an orchard Artistic Farm of the Grande Bastide. An essential structure in the local agricultural landscape, the hedge/orchard combination allows for the upkeep of the animal and plant species, and limits land erosion. The Dutch artist Gerco de Ruijter photographed the property of the Grande Bastide farm with the aid of a kite equipped with a camera. The artist Marie Lansac suggested linking these impressions of the landscape to the transformation of a hedge of thujas to a diversified biotope.
The Association Zone Inondable, created around a biological agriculture farm located in Vaucluse, wished to rehabilitate a 100m-longed hedge, bordering an orchard. This pluridisciplinary and experimental project, which aimed to create a research's place for farmers, scientists, ornithologists and artists, was coordinated by Marie Lansac with Rene Rieux's scientific collaboration (CNRS researcher). A aerial photographs' series, cartography of the hedge, was carried out by Gerco de Ruijter. This order made possible to propose a sensitive and artistic eye on the agricultural world, and to build an experimental dialogue between arts, sciences and agriculture by the abilities and knowledges exchange.
