The context
The PASTE association brings together former students of the Master 2 professional Sciences and Techniques of the Exhibition of the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. It was created in 2012 with the aim of promoting this diploma course specialising in contemporary art crafts. The association is open to all former students, former and current participants in the training process, as well as to anyone wishing to support it.
Symptomatic of the cultural and identity changes that the French university has undergone for several years, the birth of this association testifies in particular to the emergence of a true "esprit de corps", hitherto unknown within the university sphere. Several members of the association have therefore wished to commission an artist to create a work that tangibly embodies this desire to become a common body, without locking it into a restrictive form of corporatism.
The commission
On a proposal by Jérôme Poggi, approved mediator of the Fondation de France for the New Patrons action, the PASTE association contacted the artist Claude Closky in 2014 to entrust him with his commission.
Playing on the idea of the "body" of typographic fonts, Claude Closky has designed a multimedia work that allows anyone who wishes to do so to transcribe his name into a graphic composition of his own, both determined and random, using software hosted on the PASTE association's website. Entitled Rectangular, the work then makes it possible to generate a business card.
