Koen De Decker
For the Wilrijkse Steytelinckpark in Antwerp, Koen De Decker designed an organic sculpture conceived as an open structure of undulating lines that effortlessly integrate into the park’s landscape.
Koen De Decker starts from a few simple elements and principles. The ground plan is based on the development of proportions within a square as used by primitive builders. The structure itself is shaped by following the flexibility of the material, standard length stainless steel wires. The result recalls a hut or a Romanesque cathedral, the rigidity of a basket or the hull of a wooden ship. It also evokes the grace of an Art Nouveau drawing.
