This site for ideas and new practices for the re-appropriation of the public space took shape over the course of four collective self-build workshops using recovered materials, led by Raumlabor, a Berlin-based group of architects and artists, and involving the youths of Barca, an neighbourhood in the far outskirts to the North of Turin, as well as groups of students and young designers. The project, which was launched in 2011, saw the development of a series of inhabitable environmental installations, such as the Star House, made up of transformable mobile furniture and a series of seats and other handmade products. Such examples of the potential activities of the Cantiere Barca Youth Centre, at the intersection between creativity and micro-economics, are part of the design project launched in 2013 which took place in two locations belonging to the municipality and which had been closed for years, on the initiative of a number of participants. A video and a drawing by Raumlabor, created as part of the project, were included in the Architecture and Design Department collection of MoMA in New York.
