Turin, Via Anglesio 25.
After the presentation in the exhibition 9 +1 Ways of Being Political, at New York's MoMA, Cantiere Barca is back in Turin!
Since 2011, four self-build workshops conducted by artists and architects of the Berlin collective Raumlabor, with some one hundred young people, have redrawn the common spaces of the area surrounding Via Anglesio in the Barca neighbourhood. Now a Youth Centre, created thanks to the commitment of a group of local residents is about to be inaugurated.
In an interview in the magazine "Abitare", Jan Liesegang of Raumlabor said:
"With the Barca project, we have learned two basic things: the first is that change is possible, the second is that change must come from people".
The project is produced by a.titolo in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Turin and with Turin's Sixth Administrative District, and curated by a.titolo (Francesca Comisso and Luisa Perlo), Maurizio Cilli, Giulia Majolino and Alessandra Giannandrea, in the framework of The Nouveaux Commanditaires / New Patrons programme.
It is supported by Compagnia di San Paolo, Fondation de France, City of Turin Council for Youth Policies, and by the Piedmont Regional Government's Section for the Promotion of Cultural Activities and the Cultural and Linguistic Heritage.
